This Nashua fine craft gallery is located at 98 Main Street in Nashua, NH, is owned by Ruth and Tom Boland and features a wide array of distinctive jewelry, ceramics, art-to-wear, prints, baskets, wood pieces, and much more.
Ruth is a basket maker and juried League of New Hampshire Craftsmen member, who grew up in Nashua of now lives in Merrimack. She has been a basketmaker since 1991, a state-juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen since 2002 and is a past member of the Board of the Northeast Basketmakers Guild. Her hand shaped baskets often involve interesting textures, strong colors, intricate patterns and a contemporary feel.
Ruth has shown her work at juried exhibits throughout New England including the Guilford Handcraft Center in Guilford, CT, the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH, The League of NH Craftsmen’s Gallery 205 and Living with Craft Exhibit, the Slater Mill Museum in Pawtucket, RI and Gallery One in Nashua NH. Ruth’s work has also been included “500 Baskets.”
Ruth is also an accomplished teacher who is sought after for her ability to communicate with everyone from beginner to accomplished weaver. In addition to weekly classes in her studio, she has taught workshops hosted by various guilds and arts organizations through out the Northeast. Ruth’s studio and classroom is located in the gallery. It is there that she designs and weaves her baskets, and teaches classes in traditional and contemporary basketry.
“Weaving allows me to combine my love of baskets – the texture, the form, the strength, the usefulness – with my drive to make order out of chaos, my need to create, and my appreciation of color and tradition.”
Each item at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen is handmade by a juried member whose standards for fine hand craft represent the highest level of excellence and creativity.
